There are many traffic laws that people do not generally follow – passing on the right, speeding and talking on a cell phone without a hands-free device come to mind – and texting while driving is a recent addition to the ‘do nots’ of California driving. However, like the other laws mentioned, people continue to text while driving at an alarming rate, and accidents continue to occur as a result.
Such an incident appears to have happened once again in the area according to the Sacramento Bee’s traffic update blog:
“One lane of Fair Oaks Boulevard near Wilhaggin Driveis blocked because of a three-car traffic accident in which one of the drivers was texting before the collision.
A traffic management Web site reports that the driver of a pickup was texting and rear-ended a car, which then hit another vehicle. Nobody was injured in the accident reported to the California Highway Patrol at 6:55 a.m.
As of Jan. 1, it was against state law to text while driving.”
Many of us assume that the laws in place to protect drivers only apply to those who don’t drive well. Other rationalizations for such conduct include such thoughts as, “I only need to do this once,” or, “There isn’t much traffic, it’s no big deal.” The fact is that when drivers engage in this sort of conduct, accidents happen and people can get hurt or killed.
If you or someone you love has been injured in an auto accident, you need to contact the Sacramento auto safety attorneys at Demas Law Group as soon as possible to schedule a free initial consultation. The firm has been helping those harmed by this sort of conduct for many years.
