Toyota Recalls 3.8 Million Vehicles

Toyota is a brand that’s known around the world for its quality, dependability and safety, which is why recent news has come as a shock to countless owners of these vehicles.  The company has announced a massive recall of 3.8 million vehicles in the United States, which constitutes by far its largest recall ever in this country.  The reason for the recall is defective driver’s side floor mats that tend to cause the accelerator to stick to the floor, creating a situation of extreme danger for anyone who finds themselves in this situation.

According to CNN:

“Toyota issued a safety recall for 3.8 million Lexus and Toyota cars because of potentially deadly floor mats.

In statements released Tuesday, the world’s largest automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned drivers to remove the mats or risk a forced-down accelerator pedal that could lead to a fatal crash.

The seven models being recalled could potentially have removable mats that would interfere with the pedal and cause it to stick.

The Toyota models being recalled include the 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma and 2007-2010 Tundra. The Lexus models facing the safety recall are the 2007-2010 ES 350, and the 2006-2010 IS 250 and IS 350.”

Officials have advised owners of these models to remove those floor mats immediately.  The NHTSA has received 102 reports of incidents involving these floor mats, and one family in San Diego was killed in a crash that involved unexpected acceleration in their Lexus.  If you are driving one of these models, take the necessary corrective steps immediately.  If you or someone you love has been harmed by a defective vehicle, contact the Sacramento defective products attorneys who understand how to protect and enforce the rights of consumers.  Contact Demas & Rosenthal today to schedule a free initial consultation.
